90th birthday...

Not a challenge this time but a card for my Auntie who will be 90 tomorrow!! Why do I always leave things till the last minute? Anyway as I needed a card quickly I decided to do a card similar (almost the same really) to a christmas card I did a while ago.

I printed an image from the CD 'Silhouette Magic' by Ooh-la-la-creations on to ink jet acetate and then matted this on to gold card using black brads. This was then matted on to black to make the image stand out more.

The base card has a vellum wrap around it to soften the look. Gold peel offs and tag help to pull the design together.

Down on the farm...

The challenge at http://pennybfriendssaturdaychallenge.blogspot.com/ this week is 'Down on the farm'. I borrowed my daughter's cute sheep Penny Black stamp and made this very simple card to send to a friend at any time of the year.

Had a slight panic while making it as I couldn't find my cuttle bug folder - what would we all do without our 'swiss dots'? As you can see it turned up - thank goodness!

Powder Blues...

The image and backing papers I used for this card are called Powder Blues and although I made this card a few weeks ago it seemed perfect for the challenge at http://artygirlzchallengeblog.blogspot.com/ where the challenge is to have the colour BLUE as a main feature.

I love the soft tones of blue in the image of these ladies in their blue dresses and wanted to keep that softness in the make up of the card. I used vellum to soften the edges and pearls as accents that may possibly echo the kind of jewellry they would add to complete their outfits.

The image and backing papers are from the 'Passion for Fashion' CD from Ooh-la-la-Creations.

Christmas spinner cards...

The challenge this week at http://papertakeweekly.blogspot.com/ is to make a Christmas card. I also needed to make a spinning card for the monthly challenge competition in my MSN group so I decided to combine the two and have a go at making 'spinning' Christmas cards.

There are loads of brilliant blogs including ones with videos showing detailed instructions of how to make these cards. I watched the one at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEutQBxhxVI where a very talented crafter shows how to make a spinning owl card.






My first card uses some Christmas paper from my stash that already had 'Merry Christmas' printed across it - I also managed to put another strip under the slider mechanism so the message is repeated there too. The stamped Father Christmas is from a Studio G set of clear stamps.






My second card uses DCWV paper in my favourite theme 'black and white'! On this one a snowflake tumbles across the card. My daughter's 20 year old boyfriend thought these cards were great - it kept him busy for hours so maybe these are ideal cards for the boys and maybe even the men in our lives. It might just keep them out of mischief for a little while!




Spinning cards are reasonably easy to do, especially after completing your first one. I think it would be possible to make some fabulous variations for children's birthdays.

One tip I would like to pass on is make sure the foam pads you use to attach the whole spinning section to the card are thicker than your pop dots. I used some really thick ones that worked really well in allowing the spinning part to move freely.

Decoupage...

Once I start making acetate cards I can't stop - having said that I only have 2 sheets left so will have to move on soon!

I used my Wizard octagon die to create the mount for the central image - a gorgeous baby in the cabbage patch.

Friends...

This silhouette image of two children sat on a wall with a bowl of bubbles is one of my favourites from the new CD of silhouettes from Ooh-la-la-creations. I printed the image on to acetate and used blue jewelled brads to attach it to some amazing blue and white shaded glitter card from Kanban. I love this card as when you place it behind a silhouette it looks like a cloudy sky and the glitter (although hard to see in the photo) makes it extra special.

I matted the glitter card on to black and then silver - the silver is actually fastened to the other side of the acetate - that way there is no evidence of nasty DST tape
